Major Sydney developer Coronation Property is launching a charity campaign to make a positive impact and build more connected communities.
Applications are open for the Coronation Cares community grants program for not-for-profit organisations or incorporated community groups.
These groups will be providing benefits to residents living within a 10km radius of Coronation Property’s projects at Parramatta, Merrylands and Liverpool.
Merrylands, Parramatta and Liverpool projects
In Merrylands, construction is under way on Stage Two of Mason & Main, a project that will create 415 build-to-sell apartments. Residents have already started moving into Stage One, which features 434 build-to-rent homes, along with 9000 sqm of retail.
Coronation recently completed construction on the Charlie Parker tower in Parramatta City with 123 build-to-rent apartments and world-class resident amenities.
There are also 882 completed apartments at Liverpool within The Paper Mill Precinct, a four building plus retail precinct on the Georges River.
The inaugural grants program will provide two grants of $10,000 each to groups that provide housing support, health and wellbeing, community connection or education to the residents in these areas.
Grant benefits
Joe Nahas, owner of Coronation Property, said he was looking forward to seeing the anticipated community benefits of the grants program.
“It’s the local charity and community groups that are at the coalface of addressing the needs of their local area,” Nahas said.
“They’re often overwhelmed and under-resourced.
“We want to help support those groups who are on the ground, helping those who need it most.”
Affordable housing
Coronation’s community arm, Coronation Cares, has already contributed positively to its growing communities by dedicating 10 per cent of its total housing stock to affordable housing and partnering with major community housing providers, including Evolve Housing.
At The Foundry, part of The Paper Mill Precinct, Coronation created housing for NDIS providers to support Australians with disabilities.
Meanwhile, the company recently joined the Vinnies CEO Sleepout and has a partnership with Wayside Chapel that will help provide accommodation for people facing homelessness.
Meaningful support
Nahas says this reflects the values of Coronation to build better, more connected communities for everyone.
“We want to meaningfully support community-based organisations that directly or indirectly benefit the residents of our developments,” Nahas says.
“Once a development is completed, we do not walk away. We plan on sticking around and giving back.”
Professional development
Coronation is also working to foster the next generation of people who will work in the industry.
In 2018 the developer started a cadetship program to nurture a pool of 10 people in the company and regularly runs work placements with Danebank Anglican School for girls.
This value for diversity, equality and inclusion can also be seen in Coronation’s work with the National Association of Women in Construction.
Care at the core
The grants program is a further extension of Coronation’s philanthropic arm Coronation Cares and will continue to benefit communities for years to come.
“Caring about people is in our DNA,” Nahas said.
“That’s why we give back to the communities where we provide homes for people to live and thrive in.”
Key dates
Submissions for the community grants program close at 5pm Wednesday, September 4 and the successful recipients will be announced on Monday, September 9.
