Ashbury Terraces Recognised for Multi-residential Architecture at World Design Awards 2026

MEDIA RELEASE
Ashbury, 29 January 2026 – Ashbury Terraces has been awarded Silver in the Architecture – Multi Residential – Constructed category at the BETTER FUTURE Award Program – World Design Awards 2026, following its earlier recognition at the Australian Design Awards.
Delivered by Coronation Property, Ashbury Terraces is a thoughtfully crafted Build-to-Sell development in Sydney’s Inner West, comprising a diverse mix of terrace homes and apartments set within a landscaped, village-style environment. The World Design Awards recognition acknowledges the project’s architectural clarity, material expression and sensitive response to its suburban context on an international stage.
Designed by SJB, Ashbury Terraces draws inspiration from the garden character and fine-grain residential fabric of Ashbury, translating it into a contemporary development that prioritises outdoor connection, layered spaces and moments of surprise. A rich palette of materials is applied across interiors and façades, creating variety, warmth and a sense of individuality across homes.
Joe Nahas, Managing Director of Coronation, said the World-level recognition reflects a disciplined, design-led approach to residential development.
“Ashbury Terraces was shaped by a clear responsibility to respond to its context, respect the character of Ashbury, and deliver homes that support how people want to live, now and into the future.”
Interior and architectural design were developed in close collaboration, with a focus on elevating everyday living through spatial generosity and tactile detail. Landscaped courtyards, terraces and outdoor rooms create a strong relationship between inside and out, offering residents a level of amenity rarely achieved at this scale.
Victoria Judge, Lead Interior Designer and Senior Associate at SJB, said the project’s strength lies in its variety and connection to landscape.
“What captured us from the beginning was the diversity of homes and the opportunity to draw on Ashbury’s garden character. The vision was to bring that sense of outdoors and material richness inside, creating layered spaces, moments of surprise and homes that feel generous, considered and full of joy.”
Adam Haddow, Director at SJB, said Ashbury Terraces explores a more nuanced approach to contemporary housing.
“Ashbury Terraces looks at how we can introduce more diverse housing choices into established suburbs in a way that feels considered and connected. It sits between detached housing and large apartment buildings, offering a model that supports community, sustainability and long-term urban resilience. Projects like this show how carefully designed, medium-scale development can play a meaningful role in the future of our cities.”
For Coronation, the project carried a deeper responsibility grounded in local understanding. Con Athanassiou, Head of Development at Coronation, who grew up in the Inner West, said Ashbury Terraces was shaped by a strong sense of stewardship.
“Opportunities to develop at this scale in the Inner West are rare. When they come up, you have one chance to get it right. For us, that meant respecting the culture, character and rhythm of Ashbury, and ensuring the development genuinely belongs to its neighbourhood.”
The category celebrates projects that demonstrate excellence across form, space, materiality and amenity, while responding to functional, social and aesthetic considerations.
Ashbury Terraces stands as a considered addition to the Inner West, a residential project shaped by context, collaboration and a clear commitment to enduring design quality.
