8 Phillip Street has been awarded Gold in the Architecture – Proposed – Multi Residence (10+ floors) category at the BETTER FUTURE Award Program – World Design Awards 2026, following its earlier success at the Australian Design Awards.

Delivered by Coronation Property, 8 Phillip Street is a landmark mixed-use development set to redefine the Parramatta skyline. Once complete, it will be the tallest mixed-use residential building in Western Sydney, bringing together premium homes and destination hospitality, including QT Parramatta, the region’s first five-star hotel, within a single integrated tower.

Designed by global architecture practice Woods Bagot, the project exemplifies a contemporary approach to vertical city living. Residential apartments are positioned above an activated hospitality and retail podium, supporting Parramatta’s evolution as Sydney’s second CBD while maintaining a strong focus on liveability, amenity and long-term place value.

A defining element of the proposal is its integration with the heritage-listed St Andrew’s Church Hall, which is being meticulously restored as part of the development. The church is being dismantled and rebuilt brick by brick, with every original brick carefully catalogued and returned to its exact position.

A reverse-step podium extends the public domain at ground level while framing the restored heritage structure, allowing the new tower to rise respectfully from the existing church spire and hover above pedestrian laneways below. This approach ensures the project preserves Parramatta’s historic fabric while accommodating its future growth.

Joe Nahas, Managing Director of Coronation, said the Global Gold award reflects the project’s significance for both the city and the broader Western Sydney region.

“From the outset, 8 Phillip Street was envisioned as more than a residential tower. A core part of the vision was the inclusion of QT Parramatta as a true destination, bringing a premium hospitality experience into the heart of the city and activating the public realm in a way that extends well beyond the building itself” Joe says.

“This project reflects how living, hospitality and heritage can be integrated to support Parramatta’s continued evolution as Sydney’s second CBD, and it’s encouraging to see that vision recognised on the world stage.”

Domenic Alvaro, Director at Woods Bagot and Project Design Director, said the project reflects a long-standing collaborative approach to design.

“8 Phillip Street represents a transformative urban renewal project in Parramatta’s evolving skyline. Our decade-long collaboration with Coronation has consistently prioritised human-centred design principles, integrating curated amenity and hospitality offerings to establish authentic placemaking. The design intent has centred on uncompromising material and spatial quality.”

The category recognises excellence in architectural vision, planning and innovation, celebrating projects that demonstrate strong form, spatial quality and long-term city impact.

Construction is underway with the project on track for completion in late 2026.
