Parramatta’s rapidly growing CBD is set to get even busier with hundreds of new hotel rooms set to come online by 2020.

Two major hotel developments have been given the green light this month by the City of Parramatta, the 300-room Starwood Four Points by Sheraton and the 200-room QT Hotel and Resorts.

The former, developed by JZL Properties and backed by Sandstone Capital, is located at 89 George Street with the entire 27-storey tower set to house Marriott’s Four Point by Sheraton brand.

The hotel will sit on a small 18-metre wide lot neighbouring the Perth House, a single-storey sandstone Colonial Victorian Georgian residence dating back to 1841.

“The architecture of the podium is a clear and sensitive response to the heritage item, Perth House,” architecture firm Group GSA said in its submission.

The five-star QT Hotel accommodation will take up 17-storeys of the recently-approved 8 Phillip Street property developed by Coronation Property.

The Woods Bagot-designed $239 million 8 Phillip Street tower offers 314 residential units and nine-levels of basement car parking.

Rockpool dining group confirmed in early-2017 that it will bring two of its premium restaurants to the Coronation Property project.

Adding to the hotel market in western Sydney, developer Drill recently announced it had lodged a development application to demolish its ageing Westmead Shopping Centre site and replace it with a mixed-use building offering 97 hotel rooms.

Harry Triguboff’s Meriton Group has also said it will bring its Meriton Suites serviced apartments to its five-building 180 George Street development. Meriton opened 254 hotel suites at its Church Street building in Parramatta in 2016.

Australia’s largest serviced apartment group Quest Hotels also lodged an application earlier this year for an eight-storey hotel in Parramatta.
