MEDIA RELEASE
Leading builder and developer Coronation Property (‘Coronation’) has welcomed City of Sydney Council’s DA approval for its design-winning mixed-use $2.3 Billion development at Erskineville – set to be one of Sydney’s biggest Build-to-Rent (BTR) projects to date.
The 50,000 sqm former industrial site will be transformed into a vibrant new community featuring ~1,075 rental apartments, complemented by hospitality-style amenities for residents: outdoor kitchens, BBQ areas and gardens, an outdoor cinema and bar, yoga studio, sauna, pool and work spaces, with the 7,500 sqm ‘McPherson Park’ tree-lined walkways and an extensive a mix of ground-level retail and hospitality offerings on the ground level.
Located just four kms from the CBD, adjacent to the evolving hi-tech precincts of Alexandria and Waterloo, the Erskineville site is the largest remaining unencumbered parcels of land in the City of Sydney LGA and will be delivered across multiple stages. Renowned Australian architectural firms, Bates Smart and BVN, were announced the winners of the Sydney City Council's Design Excellence Competition for the Project.
Coronation’s Managing Director Joe Nahas said Coronation was delighted that it had received DA approval for Erskineville Village – currently, Australia’s largest private urban renewal project.
“Erskineville Village will be a fantastic addition to Sydney’s urban landscape and is another example of how Coronation continues to transform underutilised inner-city sites into large-scale, design-led, neighbourhoods that will provide new housing, public space and amenities,” Coronation’s Managing Director Joe Nahas explained.
“Through the planning process, we’ve worked closely with Council, our stakeholders and importantly, the community, to ensure we’ve acknowledged the character of the area, whilst creating new structures and upgrades to critical infrastructure. At a time when housing approvals across NSW have fallen, we commend Council for helping Coronation unlock and transform a site which has been sitting inactive for too many years.”
With Erskineville Village situated close to major education, health and transport hubs, 169 apartments have been provided as affordable housing, earmarked for eligible local essential workers and managed by community housing provider Evolve Housing. Coronation’s BTR subsidiary, Nation, will operate the rental apartments.
The entire Erskineville precinct is slated for completion by Q4 2027.
