The team at Coronation Property had the pleasure of talking to Mitchell Starkey, Buildings Lead at Robert Bird Group late last year on their work at 8 Phillip St and the engineering progress that has been made onsite. Working closely with the dedicated site team, Robert Bird Group have assisted in the development of construction methodology that facilitates safe and quality construction.
"With the basement and underpinning works now complete, the superstructure is well and truly underway. In order to preserve the St. Andrews Church Hall, the tower structure has been designed to clear span the full width of the site, which is approximately 28m.
The clear span is achieved using an innovative structural A-frame through the hotel levels of the tower and is approximately 16 levels in total. The A-frame efficiently directs the primary tower loads to the two mega columns located on the South East and South West corners of the site.
Working closely with the dedicated site team, Robert Bird Group have developed construction methodology that facilitates safe and quality construction. This construction methodology includes the development of sophisticated 3D model, which allowed for a digital construction rehearsal to ensure everything comes together seamlessly onsite." - Mitchell Starkey, Buildings Lead at Robert Bird Group.
In addition, progress at 8 Phillip St has made significant advancements. On the building structure, the concrete slabs are now complete up to Level nine out of the total 55 levels above ground.
The external façade installation has officially begun and will play a pivotal role in shaping the overall aesthetics and functionality of the building. These works have capped off over two years of design, coordination, and off-site fabrication.
Looking into the new year, the dedicated onsite team is aiming to complete all 15 room floor slabs, with the bar and pool slabs to follow.
